Graf 20

I don't like everything I write but I really won't like it if I'm not interested in the topic. Which I know we need to make ourselves interested but sometimes it's hard. I dont' really like my timed essays, because I feel rushed and think I won't have enough time. So I don't think those are my best essays. It takes me awhile to be able to think of a good topic and the supporting paragraphs. I feel like essays take me a ot longer than they should to write. But then again it all depends on the topic and how I feel about it.

Essay 9 Dangerous Roads

I live in Maine, which means there are many dangerous roads. There are the back dirt roads with all the potholes and then there are the regular roads that have the sharp corners. Depending on where you go you can’t exactly go around or avoid these roads. You just have to take those roads and deal with them, wisely.

At first I think of which way is usually faster depending on where I am going. Then I figure out if that road is too bad to take or not. I try to avoid dirt roads with my car if at all possible. The potholes just ruin my car and the noise scares me and makes me think I broke something. I try not hitting the potholes because when I do they jerk me in another direction which could cause me to go off the road or on the other side of the road.

The roads that I drive are usually ones that I drive almost daily. So therefore I kind of know when the bad parts are coming up. I slow down ahead of time so I don’t have to slam on the brakes to make the sharp corner or to avoid potholes. If it happens to be a road that I don’t know or don’t travel very often I just go slow or not over the speed limit so nothing just “jumps” out at me.

Lastly I just pay attention. Being focused on the road and how the road is will help. Looking at the condition of the road might tell you that the road possibly may be bad, so just look out. And paying attention to road signs that say “sharp corner” or anything like that will allow for me to slow down in time. These signs are supposed to help make these roads a little less dangerous.

Not everyone handles dangerous roads the same, some don’t even care. They just hammer down and hope for the best. By doing that the vehicle could get damaged or people could get hurt. All the roads cannot be safe, but we are trusted to be smart about how we drive on these roads.

Process Essay

At my work we take care of the
residents that come in and are staying at the facility. We have to clean them
up, feed them, care for them and just help them whenever they need it. Yes we
are taught on how to do things when we went to school but sometimes people
change how they do things, but here I am going to explain how I do things.

First I decide what resident I am
going to go wash up and get ready for bed. Usually I talk with the other people
that I am working and see who we were going to get done. We usually try to make
a plan and try to stick to it. Then I go and grab the right size brief and the
linen that is needed. For each different size brief there is a different color.
The linen we need is a couple wash cloths and a towel. Also you may need a
nightgown as long as they don’t have their own in their room.

Next I grab the water basin that
they have in their rooms put a little soap in it and fill it up with warm
water. I put the washcloths in the basin and swirl it around a little bit to
make sure that all the soap is mixed in. First I wash their face and hands, and
just work the way down the body. I put on the nightgown and make sure they are
covered. And I also change the brief so they are all nice and clean. Depending
on the resident there are some creams or powders that we need to put on them.

After I get them all clean, I usually
boost them up in bed so their feet aren’t touching the foot board and get them
all comfy. Some of the residents we have to turn every two hours so if they
need to be turned I roll them on their sides and put some pillows behind them
so they are propped up.

We all have our ways of doing
something. But if you do it every day you tend to get down a routine. With this
you get so particular with how you do things and don’t want to stray away from
that. When there are new people that come into work and they have to orient
with me, I try to show them the way I do things and tell them they can have
their own routine just as long as they do things correctly.

Example Essay

My sister and I always deny that we are not alike. Whether it's looks, how we act or anything like that. Everyone always says that we look alike and act so much alike but we deny it. I can say that attitude wise I am not as bad as my sister but we are alike way more than we think. A couple of examples are our looks, how we act, and our personalities.

Of course we look alike we are sisters, but I have seen some families where the siblings look nothing alike. We used to deny looking alike for the longest time. But there is no more denying it. We both have the same skin tone and we tan up easily. Brown hair and brown eye, the only difference is I have my hair permed and its long and Katie (my sister) has highlights and short hair.

Another example that Katie and I are alike is how we act. Serious but yet a little immature. Just depends on the situation that we are in. We just know how to still have fun but still be able to get things done. Although when we are together we may seem a little bit too foolish but that is just because we like to have fun. We like to joke around, and it gets worse as we get tired because then everything is just funny to us, so then we can’t stop laughing.

Now our personalities are another thing that makes us alike. We are outgoing and can be nice. But when we have something to say we will say it. We don’t care about what people think unless they mean something to us. And sometimes we can be impatient and get angry at stupid things.

These three things are only a few examples of how we are alike. There are a lot more but they are little details. If it weren’t for the age difference, and the little bit of differences in our looks we could be the same person.

Graf 19 Reaction to In-Class Essay

In a way time was and wasn't an issue. An hour is fine to be able to write a well written essay, the only thing is trying to come up with what you are going to write and how you are going to write it. To me that takes up too much time. I also feel like it was hard to come up with the a topic that didn't seem too dull. Although we did have the topics you picked out for us, but we needed like a sub category.

Tools Essay

A multi-tool pocket knife is a tool that has many uses. This particular tool is a good thing to have with you just in case. I think the three main parts or uses for the tool are the pliers, knife and the screwdriver. This is so much easier than having to carry around all three of those different tools.

The screwdriver part can be used for whatever it is that needs to be done with a screw, whether it’s loosening or tightening. Pliers and the knife on the other hand can be used for multiple things. I personally would use the pliers when I went fishing. To get the hook uncaught from the mouth of the fish. But we all are different and would use pliers for something different. The knife can basically be used whenever. Opening boxes, cutting whatever needs to be cut. The use of the knife could almost be endless.

The upside to having a pocket knife is that it is small. It has all these little tools that are very handy that is compacted into something small enough to fit in your pocket. Which means you can carry it anywhere (well almost anywhere) as a just in caser, instead of carrying around a whole toolbox or something with a variety of tools. Also there are different types of pocket knives that do different things or have different tools in them.

A downside to just carrying a pocket knife with you is that it might not be as effective as the real tool. With the tool being smaller it might be a bit harder to use. There is always that possibility of breaking that tool right off from the base of the pocket knife just because it is so small and might not be able to withstand what the actual size tool does.

All in all entire multi-tool pocket knife is a good thing to have with you and use. As long as it’s not a big project that needs heavy duty usage of the tool it should be good to use. But they usually do more than just cut because of the other tools that are contained in them. A handy little tool that everyone should have.
